A degree holder, A president

A lot of Issues has been raised in the on going making of the republican constitution here. But this time its more then an ear can comprehend, "a presidential candidate must posses a degree"!.

The debate of whether or not to endorse and adopt first degree requirement for a presidential candidate in the republican constitution has raised a lot of concern in the country. One may ask whether this has come up because the current president is a degree holder! A developing nation like ours which only has two big and a recent one which makes it three government universities still faces a lot of challenges. If at all the clause with a presidential candidate a degree holder is endorsed and adopted this will disadvantage a lot of marginalized groups in society. Few intelligient vulnerable/ Poor people go to these two universities because they are not only competitive but expensive . To make matters worse, most of the women in Zambia are still lacking behind in education and especially university level.women are still fighting for gender equality in many sectors of the country including education and decision making positions, yet a new law which will disadvantage them more is been debated on.

I feel what makes a president is the qualities of a good leader he Posses. The qualities which are inborn and the desire to serve the nation and not the qualification he attains. A real leader who delivers is one chosen by God and not man made.

We have had and have heard of great leaders who never attained a degree or college diploma reign and develop their nation. In as much as education is concerned, there is need for every human being with the passion to serve and develop the nation to be given the right to contest for presidency.
