Exciting Opportunity! Call for stories about being a girl in your community

When World Pulse heard about National Public Radio’s (NPR) call for stories from around the world on the topic of the hidden world of girls, we immediately thought of the rich, authentic, and often gripping stories that emerge on PulseWire every day.

Because we are dedicated to broadcasting the unheard voices of women and girls around the world and helping your stories permeate into mainstream media, we are putting out a call for stories related to NPR’s program. We want to hear your stories about what it is like to be a girl in your community: What are the expectations that you face, or faced, as a girl in your community? How are girls treated? What barriers are girls overcoming in order to create change in their communities? We're looking for narratives that are personal, powerful, and that illustrate what it is like to live as a girl in your country. We’re also looking for stories about projects and organizations that are working to empower girls.

We’ll be publishing one of your stories on World Pulse's editorial page, and we’ll also be collecting your stories and submitting them to NPR for consideration for their program. While we cannot promise that NPR will choose any of your stories for inclusion on their program, we can guarantee that at least one of the most compelling stories submitted will be published on our site. The writer of the story that is published on our site will receive our standard writer’s honorarium.

How to Participate
Submit your story on PulseWire via your personal journal. We will be choosing the story that will be published on WorldPulse.com on May 3, 2010. In the tag field, enter the term Hidden World of Girls so that we know you're submitting the story in response to this call for submissions.
