πΒ Commemorating the International Day of Education in PrisonsΒ π
Last week, we were honored to be part of the commemoration for the second year in a row, with a stakeholders' engagement on Values-Based Education in Correctional Centers.
Driven by the Mulapnen CapacityBuilding Initiative (MUCABI) and CASS Educational Foundation, supported by the Indian Embassy in Nigeria, this initiative is a positive step forward.
ποΈΒ Here's a brief on the keynote address by Prince Charles Dickson PhD of The Tattaaunawa Roundtable Initiative (TRICentre):
Introduction: On this International Day of Education in Prisons, we underscore the significance of lifelong learning and quality education in correctional facilities. Education is a transformative force that plays a vital role in rehabilitating and reintegrating incarcerated individuals, making it an essential component of any just justice system.
Current Challenges:
- Overcrowding
- Pretrial Detainees
- Inmate Population
- Aging Infrastructure
- Limited Rehabilitation and Education
- Healthcare
- Lack of Legal Aid
- Human Rights Concerns
- Recidivism
- Juvenile Detainees
π Education is pivotal in transforming incarcerated individuals' lives, offering personal growth opportunities and breaking the cycle of reoffending, contributing to safer and more prosperous communities.
πΒ Let's recommit to cultivating lifelong learning and providing quality education within sustainable value-based education systems for incarcerated individuals. Together, we can offer hope, opportunity, and a second chance, ultimately building a better, more inclusive society for all.
