🌟 Commemorating the International Day of Education in Prisons 🌟

Last week, we were honored to be part of the commemoration for the second year in a row, with a stakeholders' engagement on Values-Based Education in Correctional Centers.

Driven by the Mulapnen CapacityBuilding Initiative (MUCABI) and CASS Educational Foundation, supported by the Indian Embassy in Nigeria, this initiative is a positive step forward.

πŸŽ™οΈΒ Here's a brief on the keynote address by Prince Charles Dickson PhD of The Tattaaunawa Roundtable Initiative (TRICentre):

Introduction: On this International Day of Education in Prisons, we underscore the significance of lifelong learning and quality education in correctional facilities. Education is a transformative force that plays a vital role in rehabilitating and reintegrating incarcerated individuals, making it an essential component of any just justice system.

Current Challenges:

  • Overcrowding
  • Pretrial Detainees
  • Inmate Population
  • Aging Infrastructure
  • Limited Rehabilitation and Education
  • Healthcare
  • Lack of Legal Aid
  • Human Rights Concerns
  • Recidivism
  • Juvenile Detainees

🌍 Education is pivotal in transforming incarcerated individuals' lives, offering personal growth opportunities and breaking the cycle of reoffending, contributing to safer and more prosperous communities.

πŸš€Β Let's recommit to cultivating lifelong learning and providing quality education within sustainable value-based education systems for incarcerated individuals. Together, we can offer hope, opportunity, and a second chance, ultimately building a better, more inclusive society for all.
