Women working together to advance their businessess
I work mostly with women-owned businesses as either a part of such or an influence in ensuring their success. There is a common trend in such businesses, and that is, they are challenged in many respects. Below is a synopsis of 7 strategies I learnt during my association that can help women turn around their businesses for the better:
1. Promote Success Stories and Role Models
- Highlight successful women entrepreneurs, especially those who have broken through traditional barriers in your industry or region. Sharing real stories of how women’s businesses thrive helps alter public perception.
2. Network and Collaborate Strategically
- Partner with established businesses or male-led ventures to showcase the equal footing of women-owned businesses.
3. Strengthen Brand Image and Marketing
- Invest in professional branding and digital presence to reflect a thriving, profitable business. Consistent and polished branding, including a professional website, high-quality marketing materials, and an active social media presence, elevates the brand perception.
4. Focus on Financial Growth and Metrics
- Emphasise financial growth, profitability, and scalability when discussing or presenting your business. Regularly publishing metrics or milestones achieved by your business communicates success in tangible terms.
5. Mentorship and Training Initiatives
- Support or create mentorship programmes for women in business to pass on knowledge about building profitable ventures. This community support strengthens the perception of women-led businesses as affluent and capable.
6. Advocate for Policy Support and Publicise It
- Advocate for policies or initiatives that support women-owned businesses, whether through funding, tax incentives, or public endorsements.
7. Consistency and Excellence in Service Delivery
- Commit to consistent excellence in your products or services. Building a reputation for quality and reliability gradually shifts perceptions and associates women-led businesses with success.
By combining these strategies, women can make an impact and help reshape the narrative around women-owned businesses, paving the way for greater acceptance, respect, and success for future generations.
