16 . My literacy journey continued

Page 16 . XVI : A second big step in my learning pathway - One fine day in June 1944 , when I was of 10 years age , my grandfather Brahma Sri Aanjaneyulu R. Ramaraju took me to United Lutheran Christian Mission High School , Guntur to sit for an entrance examination to be admitted into Third Form , equivalent of 8th grade . I was asked to 1. write A Thelugu poem and explain the meaning of each sentence and give a summary of what the poem says , 2. an English paragraph was given asking me to punctuate , 3. write A Samskrutham slokam , and 4. a Maths test . To my surprise I passed that entrance test and from July 1944 to May 1945 , I was in that ULCM High School passing my 3rd Form ( Eighth Grade ) , studying English , Samskrutham , Thelugu , a little History - British ( India was still a British Colony ) , Indian History , Maths , India Geography - that one year 1944 - 1945 was the darkest chapter in my life and I have no idea how I came out of that academic year , but eventually I did overcome . At the same time a Branch of Guntur Hindu High School was opened in Brodipet , Guntur , a little nearer to my home in Koritepaadu , and my guardian cum grandfather cum would be my adoption father decided to have me transferred to that Hindu High School which is named Sri Majety Guravaiah High School or simply M G High School , and I am waiting for the school to open in July 1945 after summer recess - so let me enjoy my hot summer days at home .
