2010 VOF Week 1

I cannot remember what made me join this site, but i am positive that it is going to impact my life in numerous ways. Web 2.0 is definitely a different kind of site because it offers a platform to meet other people around the world who have similar thoughts like yourself on the kinds of improvements and progression that they want to see happen in their lives, that will impact generations. Its interactive so it is easy to meet up with people in your country to bond and discuss localized on going issues, plus what can be done about them? Web 2.0 is online so its live and when someone from lets say Peru responds to an entry of mine, heck its exciting to see that as women we have similar global issues to deal with.

The empowerment brought by 2.0 is phenomenal. It allows members to share solutions that may have worked for them. It allows us to form bonds that we can capacity build from each other, bounce off ideas to each other. Knowledge is power so if you can learn from someone who has been through the same thing as yourself then thats even more power. The mobile clinics which will be coming to Kenya is a great great idea and some day i hope to impact the lives of Kenyans in a similar way. By posting a localized issue, members can easily cause a huge online storm which will be noticed by governments, this causes pressure on them to wake up and do something! The internet itself is a powerful tool which has changed and continues to change this world. Socially too there is a formation of life long friendships which build various opportunities.

2.0 has already allowed me to meet many people. Joining the Rafiki Club has helped me realize that we as Kenyans can do much more for this country and its people, and allows the world to join in, sharing life experiences with other women of the world. We are actually citizens of the world so lets not live in a bubble, we need to accept each other as we are i.e human beings and respect life as it is. It will be empowering for me because i will soon realize what can i do to help other people who are not as blessed as i am. What is my true purpose here as a Nairobian, surely its not just to live...
