World Pulse at 20 :

I joined WP in the year 2007. Seems a long time back. Because WP was one of the first to have provided me with a platform for writing, I sought WP frequently in those days. I shared stories, experiences and so on. There were some nice people at the helm of affairs who encouraged me to contribute more meaningfully.

Then one fine morning, after I had shared a story on WP, someone's comment on the story caught my attention and took me aback. Instead of writing anything about the merit of the story (it was a good one, I’d like to believe so), she went on to vent out all her angst at me. She went on to criticize me for trying to hide my identity till then. That I was a male impersonating someone else’s identity!

It was shocking, to say the least. It must have happened some 4 or 5 years after I had been contributing to WP. If my memory serves me right, I tried to clear her misunderstanding by replying that I never tried to hide my identity. That a simple click on the Google Search Engine would make it clear to the searcher that Rathin Bhattacharjee, in this part of our world, could only be the name of a man and so on.

But the incident left me shaken. Though I kept contributing even after that, the zeal, the passion, the excitement for writing on WP, wasn't the same any more and was on the decline.

All my life, I have been a votary for advancing the cause of women. Three greatest people who have impacted my life a great deal, happened to be all women. My late Maa, Mejdi (elder sister) and our youngest Sister. I have been so inspired by the courage, tenacity, helpful nature of the last, that I started blogging about her through a series of articles. I can state here with due modesty that ZobraBooks found the blogs so inspiring that they decided to bring out a book entitled “My Sis : Through My Eyes” with the blogs.

I am also blessed with two daughters. Both of them landed up with jobs in their early twenties and have been doing quite well in Life, by His mercy and blessings. I kept telling them from early on that a truly good-hearted girl is equal to a hundred good boys because a good-hearted girl is The All Mighty’s greatest gift to the world and as such, is capable of doing much more.

Unfortunately, we live in a strange world today. Gone are the days when women prided on being a home-maker. I was talking to my niece, a high school teacher, last night. She opposed my views by stating that today not only does a woman have to be the home-maker but she is also the chief wage-earner in many families across the globe. In short, what my niece meant was that the concept of a woman hasn't changed much over the years. She still is the one responsible for holding the family together, both from inside and out.

I leave it to you reader to judge the validity of her statement, but whatever may be the case, a woman mustn't lose her grip on some age-old values like Modesty, Simplicity, huKindness, Compassion, Patience, Perseverance  and Reselience for the good of the world . Now, I know, I am putting myself under the scanner here by venturing to touch upon a very delicate and sensitive subject. But the truth and the fact of the matter is - Only women can make this world of ours far more better than what it is today.

Now, that brings the role and responsibilities of a trusted organisation like World Pulse into the picture. Before someone asks me about the gist of my writing, let me tell you that in the 20th year since its inception, an esteemed organisation like WP, has a far more positive, broader and befitting role to play.

Now let me share an incident in this connection for an example. Twice I was invited to fill out the form to be an WP Ambassador. I don't know why my nomination or candidature, call it what you will, was rejected. One deciding factor must have been my gender - the fact that I am a man rather than the other way round! Therefore, there was not much I could do for putting in hard work for the development or promotion of this much revered organisation!

In the twentieth year since the inception of WP, I would humbly request the power-that-be of the organisation to set an example at being more inclusive by incorporating people like me into the mainfold of the organisation rather than looking upon me as an outsider. The WP should set the benchmark, be the trend-setter regarding a lot of things like Equality, Accountability,Justice and Indiscrimination etc in the world today.

If some people find some malicious intentions underneath my lines, then it is best for me to stay away from WP. My absence will not be rued by anyone. Nor will it make any difference. But whatever the verdict may be, time has come for this peerless organisation to take stocks, to re-evaluate its workings, functions, membership, structure and and some other things to strive to be, to establish itself as a truly global organisation.

Let me wish World Pulse a lot of Success, Satisfaction and Fulfillment in the days ahead. Let the organisation be a truly global one for all of us to be proud of our association with this one-of-its-kind world body.
