Agroecology in Schools

On 23rd July 2024 , Haki Nawiri Afrika in collaboration with Kariobangi Social Justice Centre and with support from Landscapes of Hope organised an agroecology session as part of Building Climate Resilient Communities in Kenya.The forum was held at Ulamba Primary School in Siaya County and brought together 176 participants of whom included 1 School Board Member, 1 Community Health Promoter, 1 Teacher , 1 Haki Nawiri Afrika partner , 1 journalist and Haki Nawiri members.
The forum discussed food and nutrition challenges affecting pupils , climate change , principles of agroecology , seed sovereignty including nutritional , cultural and medicinal value of indigenous seeds.The forum further involved tree planting which included fruit trees and vegetables .
The initiative further seeks to start a poultry and rabbit keeping project in the school as well as a library project to improve the learning environment and enhance school retention and completion rates.
