On 22nd June 2024 , Haki Nawiri Afrika in collaboration with Safina Empowerment Organisation together with Kariobangi Social Justice Centre , co-organised a session on agroecology at Kivandini Comprehensive Primary School .The forum was held in Machakos County , which is a semi-arid region located in Eastern Kenya. The session had 243 participants who included 5 teachers and 1 parent and 2 journalists.

This was the first time the school was hearing about agroecology. The participants were taken through a discussion on healthy food and characteristics of healthy and sustainable diets, principles of agroecology and practical skills training on how to set up a carbon bed as part of climate resilience in the community. The children planted various vegetables on the carbon bed and were divided into classes to finish up the remaining carbon beds.

To break monotony , music was played , the children got to dance , in addition to reciting poems.Through this forum , agriculture became fun.

Collaboratively, we are changing the narrative on young people and agriculture , we are nurturing youthful Agroecology Ambassadors , one school at a time!
