Ana Maria Arenas in Costa Rica´s Southern Caribbean dedicates her best energies to voice diversity in social media

A social media activist, producer of one of the strongest collective social media venues - INFORMATE CARIBE with over 47,000 likes - provides a voice to the most diverse, multiethnic and piuricultural community in Costa Rica. A former student of history, she claims that now she is understanding what history is all about, 

She is a Costa Rican living in Puerto Viejo since 2006, she is currently a Graphic & Web Designer and photo editor. She is co funder of the WOLABA PARADE in Puerto Viejo, a cultural parade that commemorates the Afro Costa Rica Persons´and Culture Day each August 31th.

At present she is making a turn in her life to dedicate herself to the protection of the environment by becoming a climate change scholar alongside her activism in that field. She is bilingual and presently raises a 12 year old mestizo girl.

She is part of a strong grassroots network of women in her community that is challenging violence against women and girls in their community providing information and organizing marches whenever anything happens to a woman and also every 25th of November. 

"Awareness is nit enough - she once told me - we have to let women and girls know that they are not alone and will be supported if they speak out."

Strengthening diversity in the Southern Caribbean is a process that has to deal with the protection of land and cultural rights of original dwellers against types of tourism development that would exclude them of the natural and cultural resources that their ancestros left them.
