Unconscious biases are defined as social stereotypes about different groups of people that are different outside of your own familiarity and our own conscious awareness. In truth we all hold unconscious beliefs about various social and identity groups, and these biases stem from one's tendency to organize social worlds by categorizing. Due to the lack of understanding at no fault of anyone else but ourselves it is up to each individual to learn and get to know about groups outside of our communities, states in countries.
It is noted that knowingly or unknowing biases is just not about race or ethnicity. It could be age , gender. sexual identity, weight, physical appearance and so on.
" When we educate ourselves we allow an openminded perspective to experience the good of humanity" ~ Queen Sheba D Cisse
As a American born of Senegalese ancestry by way of my great grandparents and myself personally raised on the North American continent I was thrilled and sad at the same time to learn of my ancestors past history from Alkebulan (Africa) and wanted to know more about the Native Americans historical past and present in the United States of America. Both studies opened up big cans of worms of anger and hate towards all of humanity everywhere. Fortunately I had a educational opportunity to attend higher levels of learning in Universities including working contracts at the Smithsonian in the United States that all of humanity had participated in this topic again conscious and unconscious. It was in my adult years that I encountered racism but fortunately never at the level of my parents and grandparents. How did I deal with it? I got the chance to feel a touch of bigotry and ignorance and did not take it personally although to experience this type of behavior open my eyes to become a better enlightened version of myself. A part of our life journey is growth physically, mentally and spiritually. It's my belief and not to judge or challenge anyone else's.
Have a good day, enjoy the rest of your weekend and thank you for your time.
