Permit me retell my personal experience with menstruation . This story is my primary motivation behind period education and combating period povert.
Losing my mother at the tender age of 13 was a devastating blow to me, but what followed the next month was equally challenging. I experienced my first period, and the lack of knowledge and resources to manage it properly made the situation even more difficult. I had to resort to using old clothes and tissue paper to handle my menstrual flow, as my aunt could not afford to buy me proper sanitary pads.
The embarrassment and shame I felt during those early days of menstruation were overwhelming. I had to hide my condition from others, using whatever means I could to manage the situation. It was a struggle that lasted for years, until I was able to find a way to support myself financially and afford proper menstrual products.
My personal experience with period poverty and the challenges it brought inspired me to take action. I realized that I was not alone in facing these difficulties, and that there were many other girls and women who were also struggling to manage their periods in a dignified and hygienic manner. This realization fueled my determination to make a difference in the lives of others who were facing similar challenges.
I started a community education campaign to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene and provide menstrual kits to girls in need. Through this initiative, I have been able to reach over 6000 girls and women, helping them to manage their periods with dignity and confidence. I have also organized empowerment projects for women and girls, teaching them skills that can help them generate income and support themselves financially.
Period poverty is a real issue that affects millions of girls and women around the world. It is a barrier to education, health, and economic opportunities, and it perpetuates stigma and discrimination against women. By addressing period poverty and providing access to menstrual products and education, we can empower women and girls to reach their full potential and break the cycle of poverty.
I firmly believe that we are stronger together when we support and uplift one another. By working together to empower women and girls, we can create a more just and equitable society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Period poverty is a solvable problem, and by taking action and advocating for change, we can make a difference in the lives of those who are most vulnerable.
I am proud to be a part of the movement to end period poverty, and I will continue to fight for the rights and dignity of women and girls everywhere. Together, we can make a difference and create a world where every girl has access to the menstrual products and education she needs to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Period poverty is not a choice, but ending it is. Let's stand together and make a difference.
