Anchor of Love

Being a student and struggling with mental health issues is a challenge. Often times the school doesn't have the facilities to support those students, and their struggles affect their academic performance. That in turn makes them feel incompetent, and they feel like they aren't good enough in anything. I have faced the same issue, i'm still facing it. I'm a Chemical Engineering student who has a diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder with Psychosis and Suicidality. On top of the academic pressure, I face challenges in terms of finding the right kind of medication that will assist with managing my condition, finding a psychiatrist who I will be able to relate to and who will be able to assist me to address my thoughts, and a lot more. Its easy for one to reach their breaking point, and feel worthless. I've been there, but I don't want my reality to be based on that. We want to be heard, we want to be understood, and we want to feel normal. We need help. We know that we can contribute to the world. I have a proposal for a Campus Wellness Centre to establish in my varsity institution. I have also pitched the idea to the lectures, but since I am the one with the vision, I have the responsibility to see it through. Funding opportunities are hard to come across, but i'm hoping for the best because I believe in rehabilitation, I believe in us, I believe in myself.
