Cassava packing yesterday

Sustainability is what drives my passion to engage in income generating activities. I just want a situation where we can support our work in a little way too.

This is why we engage in a lot of local businesses in our organisation. When we began the relocation process, what kept me awake was how to survive during the dry season. I know that we will always experience dry season, even the world has its own seasons too, so are humans and so is our organisation too.

My mind choose farming, this is because food is one of the most important basic needs of human. We bought acres of farmland at better bargains, now every thing has changed, the economy has also affected the price of land too.

We began to clear and plant crops immediately. We focused on cassava plantations because it is cheaper to plant and maintain. Cassava will survive at all cost.

When we decided to build our factory too, we made garri making a priority too, almost all of us from the village can process cassava into garri.

As we were building the factory, we were also planting our cassava, that was March last year. Unfortunately, the economy of our country nosedive, prices of foodstuffs became unaffordable to the common people. Garri is the most surprising of all food items, a bag flew fro. 7,500 Naira to 50,000 Naira.

Fortunately for us, we had planted more than 20,000 heaps cassava in our factory.

We were ready to begin production this week, we got to the market, we couldn't afford to buy cassava, the truckload has jumped to 550,000 Naira. I was less than 100,000 last January.

So, I told the team to uproot some of our cassava plant to see how far it has matured. Luckily, our cassava is ready for harvest too.

It was as if we got cassava for free . Just imagine. Since Sunday evening, we begin to Harvest our cassava, inside our factory, and we are still on it, even till today.

Now we have more than enough cassava to start our first line of production in our factory.

This is a huge blessing.

Planning ahead is very important in our work. undefined
