The commemorative demonstrations for International Women’s Day 2015 have just had their official opening on March 5 in the city of Bukavu, province of South-Kivu, by the provincial authority. The opening ceremonies have just taken place in the stadium of Kadutu located in the commune of the same name. This allows all the feminist organizations to engage in the activities planned for this purpose.

On March 15, the women’s component of civil society of South Kivu put together the steps for this commemoration. On the esplanade of the Saint-Jacob power supply an exposition called Women of Value has just taken place. The exposition was about the activities done by the women’s organizations of civil society. At the same time, the women demonstrated the multiple constraints that they regularly encounter. Then a list of specifications was laid out and transmitted to the authorities.

Another big demonstration of JIF 2015 has just been put on by COCOFEM/GL which is a regional consultation team of women. This team gathers respectively with women from Rwanda, Burundi and the DRC.

These demonstrations were opened by a conference held at Alfijiri College regarding impunity in relation to violence against women in the DRC. This conference took place March 20 at 3:00. In addition, the delegates from Rwanda, Burundi, Kinshasa, Kisangani and Goma had visited victims of violence being taken care of at Panzi hospital beforehand.

These demonstrations lasted 2 days. That means that on March 21, 2015 women from the member organizations of the women’s collective, acting together with COFAS, revealed their initiatives at the stadium of Kadutu. Afterwards they respectively listened to the speeches of the president of COCOFEM/GL and the representative of the Secretary General of CIRGL.

Let us take note that other women’s demonstrations are continuing to take place under the theme of “Developing Women’s Autonomy and Political Participation” for Congolese women.
