Commercial local birds management can be potential vehicle in alleviating rural household poverty in Africa



In Uganda out of 79% of her 35million people live in rural areas and derive their livelihood from rudimentary subsistence peasant farming with almost little or no household incomes at all while spending less than three hours of their working time per day.Women constitute 58% of the labour force in this peasant sector yet they are the bread winners in most rural household families.We have engaged some rural peasant women in managing local birds such as hens,turkeys and ducks reared at household level and they have improved their household incomes using our subscriptions
