Drop The Fear & Challenges And Embrace Your Future In Tech

I never derived pleasure in the Nigerian Curriculum Of Teaching Mathematics and Physics or any subject related to STEAM. For me it seemed "Too Difficult" ,"A Drag", "Ridiculously Boring", "Too Much Formulas That Never Made Sense", "Go And Form Your Notes ", "Not Enough Laboratory Equipment", "Teachers Who Used 1960 Curriculum To Teach A Millennial". I failed again and again and again in Sciences it felt like I would never outgrow my ambition to become a technologist or a professional in ICT as girl. Truly, it hit me hard.

And so I shifted to arts where I found pleasure and bagged out with one of the best results in my time.

Ultimately it did not end there, during my time in University, I also opted into arts and humanities because for me, there was the fear that I was undeserving to go into STEM courses, My heart will beat when I heard Sciences or any thing that had to look like a formula and there was a strong stereotype that girls belonged to arts and young men should be in engineering and sciences. Yet Still, I excelled in arts and humanities.

Nobody told me that Mathematics, physics or any other STEM courses could be applied to our daily lives. All, I ever saw as a growing girl was formulas and algebras. Abstracts that did not reflect the true meaning of what ought to be. Nobody fed my curiosity that driving was applied mathematics - that when i reverse my sterling on my wheels I will be applying a 90 or 180 degree angle in order to move my wheels. Nobody told me that when I am in the Theatre, applied Maths will help me to locate my seat, to predict the duration of a spectacle, or to calculate light intensity. I was not taught that when I thank my colleagues, friends and interests, social networks and the website I surf provides an experience ever more closely aligned with my tastes over time. Behind this “phenomenon” lies a raft of algorithms that would not be possible without advanced or applied Mathematics. Or when I have to calculate my taxes or when I am in the gym and I need to keep count to stay in synch with the sequence of movements. I was not taught that estimating the distance and time involved in getting to a destination involved applied mathematics. I could go on and on but my point is everyday, we deal with STEM and ICT whether we love it or not. As you can see, mathematics has many real, practical applications in our everyday lives: Whether in relation to cooking, shopping or buying a house. Without mathematics, a great many technological innovations and inventions would never have been born. Approximately inevitable. SO WHY DID I HAVE TO GO ON BEING SCARED? It was high time I broke that chain and I did. But during my early years of work experience where I managed projects with teams and organizations, I saw the under-representation of women and persons living with disabilities in maximizing their productivity using technology. I recognized their struggles with my past fear for STEM development. In order to bridge that gap and break the barrier of the difficulty in STEM, I developed my skills in STEM. Currently, I impart STEM skills and knowledge to people living with special needs, women and teenagers. I am most proud of the accomplishment that PWDs can now access digital skills through the training we provide for them. I promised myself that I will learn the ropes, devise a ladder and throw that ladder for other young women to climb and discover their true selves. Going Forward, I can assure you, that a lot of girls and women in WorldPulse platform experienced the same difficulty and stigma back in school. So then, to the ladies out there: We really sell themselves short. If I had a way, i could earn a buck for every time I heard someone say “I’m not a tech person" . Because that is a farce and has to stop. So let’s look at it this way. You spend HOURS of your day surfing the web, posting on social media (WorldPulse), streaming video, writing and commenting in documents, firing off emails, checking your phone for texts, filtering photos, Feeds and Videos to upload them on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, YouTube, Instagram, programming your DVR, and doing 85 other things online. ...but you’re not a tech person? . You ought to give it a thought to start using the short list of Tech Skills examples mentioned above alongside the professional & Self acquisitions you already developed to positively impact lives and possibly earn from it. ALMOST EVERYONE CAN BE STEM INCLINED (SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS) IF YOU WANT TO. OF WHICH YOU CAN. All we need is a little push to get that height of attainment.

So in conclusion, running a digital technology company as ARPG Tech gives me meaningfulness, the reason is because, for me, this not only a profitable platform to make money and add value to women and teenagers lives but also its a platform to lift other women who have allowed themselves for so long be marginalized into thinking that technology or STEM acquisition is difficult or extremely challenging. They can make it too. YES.

In fact, all those ladies who have benefited from our organization now understand the true meaning that technology is an integral part of our lives and can be used to transform self, education, communities, health approach, environmental issues, climate issues, security issues, political issues and social economical issues at large.
