“During the civil war, women were used as commodities.  When two tribes
 fighting each other, often harassing women and girls to celebrate
 his success.  This practice has exacerbated sexual violence, ”he explained.
 Mahamed, a leading women's rights activist, is committed to making a positive difference
 reducing the scale of human rights abuses.
 "Through awareness campaigns, we advise victims
 sexual and gender-based violence.  Public awareness is not there either
 we use radio stations to educate people.  Our efforts have had a huge impact
 in the communities we work in, ”he said.
 The campaigner urges victims of sexual violence not to remain silent.
 He added that the main focus of the SOWPADO awareness campaign is that
 encourage victims of sexual violence to seek justice in the system
 formal justice rather than seeking tribal mediation.  The justice system
 of traditional elders was not effective in dealing with sexual violence,
 said Mahamed
 “There was a mother who owned a shop in a village in the Lower Shabelle region.  The night
 Gunmen broke into her shop and took everything, before raping her and then
 killed.  She left a baby.  No arrests have been made.  The elders
 failed to identify and punish the perpetrators.  It's shocking, "he said
 remembered.
 He believes that a concerted effort can only put an end to the violence
 on the basis of gender.  Decision to continue outreach to the community is as strong again
 attacked while carrying out SOWPADO operations.
