Gender based violence

During the current lock down we see an steep increase in gender based violence.  Men being violent against women - physical and emotional violence. However, every item focuses very little on the man who is the perpetrator.  Even the government puts the responsibility on women to press 55 to protect themselves.  However, this can be quite difficult for women who may not have access to their phone due to the 'control' situation. The way stories are projected, it seems as if lock down is responsible for the violence. Why is this the case?  Why is it that women are not perpetrators in maximum of cases?  Do they not find the the impact of lock down stressful too? We see most women now have to manage to 'work from home', as well as look after their families (a difficult task if you have young children!), ensure school work is done, and take care of herself.  For the man in the household, he chooses to work whenever he wishes and many do not want to take on any household responsibility - particularly if they earn more than the woman. Yet lock down is provided as an 'excuse' for the violence! We need the media to reconsider what they are publishing and ensure that violence is not made into something that is inevitable!!
