Harnessing Technology for Change: Sikemi's Journey

Technology has always fascinated me, not because I'm an expert—far from it—but because of its potential to connect people and drive change. Even though I’ve never been particularly tech-savvy, my curiosity and passion for learning have always pushed me to explore how digital tools can be used to make a difference.

Growing up, I wasn’t the most technically inclined. My friends would navigate new gadgets with ease, while I struggled with the basics. Despite this, I never lost my enthusiasm for technology. My journey took a significant turn when I discovered World Pulse, a platform where women share their stories and advocate for change. It was here that I saw firsthand how technology could be used to address critical issues like gender-based violence and economic inequality. Women were using mobile apps to report violence and crowdfunding platforms to empower female entrepreneurs, showing me that technology isn’t just about the latest devices—it’s about creating opportunities and amplifying voices.

Inspired by these stories, I decided to leverage technology in my own life. I began taking online courses in human rights advocacy, conflict management, and resolution, earning certificates that deepened my understanding and equipped me with the tools to contribute effectively. These experiences showed me that technology can be a gateway to knowledge and empowerment, even for someone like me, who might not be naturally inclined toward it.

While I faced challenges along the way—moments of self-doubt and technical difficulties—I persisted. I started sharing my own stories and insights through social media and blogging, using these platforms to raise awareness about the issues I care about. I might not have all the answers, but I’ve learned that passion and persistence can go a long way.

Today, I continue to explore new ways to use technology for social good. I’m committed to learning and growing, using every tool at my disposal to make a difference.
