If my beloved grandma had these online tools she would have become an activist

The challenges and barriers are endless but there is always a way to overcome difficulties. Being an immigrant, unemployed mother of a two year old and living in the Canadian countryside is challenging. Why? Because I still try to understand the people and the way things work in my community, there are not enough places in the daycare (hundred sixty kids are in the waiting list) and especially for two days a week that I can afford, a result of not enough jobs in the area especially for newcomers.
All the above combined with my online studies causes me stress. I have the will to become active and create a change in my community but do not have the time to get involved. The only available time to study and do even personal banking or write this assignment and get involved online in human rights movements is after 9 pm at night when my son goes to sleep or some hours in the weekend when my husband takes care of him. This is a big challenge ... and I am aware that I am not the first woman who faces such difficulties but I could safely say that societies around the world have abandoned women to solve this huge problem by themselves. There is no community support. Only if things go very wrong for the child then the social services become involved. Mothers go crazy so often because they do not have any support. Many times, there isn’t any extended family around – not even grandma or grandpa like in my case.
I try to innovate new ways to solve my problem. I already found form a local online search engine another lady that we do babysitting exchange once a week for four hours; I give Greek lessons to a young girl and in return she babysits for two hours per week my son. Still, these hours are not solving my problem but give me some morning valuable free time to study and stay active citizen. I am searching for work, trying to find any telecommuting job but this is not an easy task. Lastly, I do not sleep a lot trying to do as much as possible at night. I bet that many women are doing or have done the same while having the rest of the society telling them that is not good for their health!
PulseWire and other online communities offer women the freedom of participating to social movements from their homes, any time at low cost. Online participation gives some freedom of speech to women cultivating a better participatory society. I am sure that if my beloved grandma had these online tools she would have become an activist. So now that we have the ability to online participation it is important to get involved and make the best of it.
