Introducing myself and my journal: Activism

About Me:
My first exposure to World Pulse was when I picked up a magazine last year. I was so excited to see so many women form around the world working to make the world and their communities better. I finally got around to joining earlier this year and am now getting around to posting. My new years resolutions this year were: 1. doing work in the field of literacy, 2. working with women and children, 3. living a more simple life, and 4. exploring the world more. I truly want to become more of an activist locally and internationally as I believe women are strong and will bring about unprecedented changes in our world for the better. Also earlier this year I joined a group in my community called Spread the Word which pairs up reading buddies with students who are having difficulty in our local schools. We meet once a week and work on improving the reading and comprehension skills of our buddies. This year I am working with four students who are in third grade and only reading at the first grade level.

I also have been to a couple of Peace Corp meetings and am exploring applying in mid 2011. This would give me a more direct impact in an area of need. Why the wait?? My daughter is in her graduate studies and I must be here for graduation.

Best Wishes to my global sisters and thank you for all the work you are doing.
