Introducing myself and my journal: Aging and Other Adventures

About Me:
I'm a 60+ yr old Canadian widow of an Egyptian/Sudanese businessman who raised her children in Egypt and chose to stay on when they were grown and my husband had passed on. I live on a farm that I built myself near the pyramids of Abu Sir where I keep horses, some goats, poultry and an inordinate number of dogs. I've lived in Egypt for over twenty years now and count myself as Egyptian although I don't hold the passport due to some bureaucratic hitch. Funny that, since my husband and kids are all officially Egyptian. As an older woman with a good \"mother voice\" I find Egypt to be a very congenial place to age, as while it can be annoying and uncomfortable for younger women, there is a well-entrenched respect for older women in this society and especially in the rural areas. I'm friends with my neighbours out here, a group of people that include wealthy Cairenes, some expats, and a lot of farmers. Many of my wealthy neighbours do not get to know the farmers, but I do a lot of horseback riding in the countryside and have gotten to know the farmers, their wives and children. I'm probably one of Egypt's oldest bloggers both in experience and age, having started my first blog (Living In Egypt http://miloflamingo.blogspot.com) in March 2003. I now have three others: Turn Right At The Sarcophagus http://haramlik.blogspot.com, Cairo Giza Daily Photo http://cairogizadailyphoto.blogspot.com, and Da Moose Is Loose http://mstroud.blogspot.com. I enjoy writing and the Sarcophagus blog is about horseback riding while the Moose is for kids. Most of my activities at the farm center around the horses and education. My riding tours are partly just riding and partly educational tours where I explain the farming practices and how the farm families in the area live.
