Introducing myself and my journal: Beyond Rhetoric

About Me:
I am working as a Gender Affairs Officer with the AU/UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur. In my position, I contribute in mainstreaming gender in all aspects of the mission’s mandate including policies, planning, procedures and reporting. I contribute in building the capacity of UNAMID staff on gender issues and provide policy advice and technical assistance to the sector senior management. I build up partnerships with the relevant state government ministries, police, the transitional institutions and the civil society to plan and implement mechanisms for the protection of women against sexual violence. I coordinate with humanitarian community to ensure prevention and response to sexual violence including availability of emergency contraception and PEP services. I assist to ensure the participation of women groups and activists in the ongoing peace negotiations so that the outcomes integrate women concerns and gender dimentions. I assist in planning the early recovery response by focusing on the economic, social and political empowerment of women in Darfur. Previously, I have worked with the UNFPA and various other national NGOs in Pakistan. I have over 10 years of diverse but matching background experience in program management, budgeting, policy and strategy formulation, Behavior Change Communication (BCC), media advocacy, strategic management and monitoring and evaluation.
