Introducing myself and my journal: Demand Dignity

About Me:
I'm an Egyptian-Canadian activist and documentary filmmaker. I've been monitoring and reporting on human rights abuses in the Middle East and North Africa for nearly a decade, focusing on the most vulnerable populations: survivors of gender-based violence; female prisoners; and minorities. Over the course of my work, I've interviewed hundreds of victims of abuse, government officials, police officers, lawyers, judges, and activists in order to put together a compelling and in-depth exposé of a given human rights situation. These rich experiences in the field provided many of the complex stories and characters that I have used as material in my films. I'm strongly commited to the power of the visual media to generate social change.

My Passions:
film; creative writing; travel; photography.

My Challenges:
To infuse creativity into each and every day...

My Areas of Expertise:
gender-based violence; arbitrary detention; documentary film; screenwriting
