Introducing myself and my journal: Reduding Maternal Mortaility in Nigeria through Mobile phones

About Me:
My name is Chinomnso Traffina Ibe born in the family of Late Ven. Justice and Janet Ibe on the 24th June 1983. I am registered nurse/ midwife, and a Public Health practitioner with eight years of experience in both clinical and Public health activities . I am one of the 10 selected Maternal heath Young Champion fellow, a program initiative of the Maternal Health Task Force at Harvard School of public Health and Institute of International Education . I head and founded an organization , Traffina Foundation For community health , which promotes maternal and child health programs in the rural communities. In the course of my community work and as a maternal health young champion, I initiated new projects that had positive impact to the lives of women in the rural communities by providing free door to door Ante-natal care services for women who could not afford medical care due to finances, also provided and distributed 3000 clean delivery kits free for pregnant women in a bid to reduce high rate of infection to mother and child during delivery in rural health centers in Northern Nigeria. I have initiated the very first program involving men in maternal health programs where i organized the first community mobilization and conference on male involvement in maternal health in Bwari Area council FCT Abuja , this activity brought about the establishment of male participation at Ante-natal first visit with their wives at Bwari General hospital and other health Facilities in FCT Abuja The major outcomes of my work in the community tracking the progress of my work with the women through mobile phones. I established an M-health program that tracks every pregnant women from point of registration at ANC till six weeks after delivery. The women receives SMS or text message reminder on next appointment date for ante-natal care, important information on healthy live styles during pregnancy and at delivery. The use of mobile technology has helped many women learn more on how to identify danger signs during pregnancy , it has also helped them we that participates in the male involvement program to have regular information on how to identify signs of labor and other basic information that would help them support their wives to have a positive pregnancy and delivery outcomes. Currently through this mobile technology , many of our mothers delivered at the hospital for the first time. It has also helped to track women who are faced with delivery complications in the rural communities, helping to maintain timely interventions.

I am happily married to Daniel and we are blessed with a baby girl Morgan.

My Passions:
my Passion is to provide support women and to make childbirth one of the most sacred acts- a clean and safe expereince for all mothers and babies irrespective of economic status

My Challenges:
My challenge is funding to keeoing going in my work. Majority of all that i have done is self funded and individual donations. Many people think its only the goverment duty to help a woman to survive in childbirth. But i am creating the change on this

My Vision for the Future:
To expand in more communities and health centers to promote maternal health and child health, as to reduce the high maternal death burding in my dear country Nigeria
