Introducing myself and my journal: World Pulse

About Me:
I am Naomi Kerongo; I survived the august 7th 1998 US Embassy Bombing in nairobi kenya. I must admit that this was a very life altering experience for me and my family as well. Due to physical and mental trauma experienced during the blast, I was many months sick, had an operation and also was on and off a mental hospital for more than two years. This led to me losing my job as a Government trade Development officer and henceforth I was evicted from the government given house I was living in. This plunged me right into the ultimate poverty and Depression where i had no health, no income and 5 children to feed single handed as a solo parent. With no compensation for the outcome of this tragerdy, I became even more desparate and almost gave up hope for living because I could not even bear the pain of watching my children suffering in hunger and no money to educate them.
Despite the hardships of my new situation I was determined to fight injustice. I started to organize Victims of the bombing to protest the Government’s poor hundling of Victims of Terrorism, poor handling of the incident and lack of terrorism prevention measures. I held a hunger strike to highlight government corruption, and the need for compensation of Victims of the Bombing.
At some point in my life, where I always blamed the tragerdy and played victim, I gathered enough strength and started a small school for the Orphans and other Vulnarable Children right in the heart of the nairobi’s mukuru slums where I helped feed and educate the Children with little money that I got from my pension and from the Latrine business in the Slum, materials and food from wellwishers mainly General Motors East Africa. Later, with the help of the slum people, I cleaned a gigantic hip of garbage dumpsite in the slum area where i plantend flowers and food to feed poor slum people. On this same piece of land, with the help of wellwishers, we constructed a school that empowers slum women with skills to enable them have a productive healthy life and ascape Sex trade.
I stand up now for a world free from all terrorrist acts. A world full of love, full of peace and forgiveness. We as human kind dont need to torture and de-humanise each other for the sake of power and money. I recovered from this tragerdy due to my strength and will to live a valuable dignified life not only for myself but for all as one. With a grateful heart I shall endevour to give back to society in return for being alive, an option that was not given to my 250 friends who perished on that day.
