KENYAN WOMEN IN TECH.

It is rare to find a Kenyan woman in a laptop and mobile phone repair industry.

Frankys foundation, a registered nonprofit organization, established in 2019, identified this gap and went ahead to empower our first students, focusing on the female gender: the girl child and women. Women are the backbone of a nation; when you educate a woman, her education trickles down to the family, the nation, and the society. One way of increasing a country’s productivity, fueling its economic growth, and help tame employment in Kenya.

We operate a training center on leased space in Nairobi county Central Business District (CBD) area at Norwich building opposite Hilton hotel, mama Ngina street from Monday to Saturday from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. The training runs for 3months. The curriculum comprises skill levels of repair methods starting from the basics of diagnosing and troubleshooting all models of laptops and mobile phone problems up to advanced soldering repair techniques. The hands-on training approach methodically breaks down each repair procedure so that women obtain a thorough understanding of how to successfully execute each technique and master all repair methods and techniques.

Upon completing the training program, the foundation practically supports the trained women by helping them set up their small repair shops in two groups encouraging the women technicians to work as a team, earning an income through repairs they carry out and impart skills acquired by training the youth, girl child, and fellow women in the community. The foundation continues to guide and ensure that their businesses thrive. As part of our corporate responsibility, we improve women’s access to decent work and address the gender wage gap.

We believe that the entry strategies we have adopted give us a space in the women's empowerment program. We intend to use it to grow our foundation and reach many Kenyan women.

OUR EMPOWERMENT PROGRAM TARGETS THE;

•  Vulnerable and impoverished women in the community

•  Women living with disabilities/intellectual disabilities

•  Refugees

 Our training is essential to our students, especially the women who will earn skills that will enable them to make a regular income and help them address the various societal disadvantages they face daily. Franky's Foundation has continually experienced an increase in students every day, but growth has been hampered by insufficient funding and training facilities.

Another challenge is that our training facility is running short of tools and equipment necessary for the optimum running of our Program. Moreover, this facility is funded by proceeds earned via our external smartphone and laptop repairs. Not every student can pay the fee for training, thus putting a tremendous strain on our program stability.

Since we started this great initiative, we have never received any grants or funding. I call upon any well-wishers to come on board and invest in the Wezesha Dada Initiative, which helps make a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of women who would have otherwise remained marginalized and impoverished. Franky's Foundation would like to thank you for this opportunity and look forward to working with you to impact our people's lives positively.
