Mama Nderitu is a friuit vendor in Dohnholm

Hers is a story of resilience, a story of a 38 year old single mother of 3,who has seen her family go through the worst of trying times, but because of woman power she can afford a smile.I call her Mama Nderitu, her third born son Godfrey Nderitus story is what touched me and what linked me to this woman,Beth Wamboi Nderitu,a woman with a great heart, i say a great heart because i stay in dohnholm and despite all her troubles when she sees me she smiles, then quickly she hands me a bunch of bananas for the babies, she calls me an angel,an angel who saved her boy from the streets. And here goes the story of Nderitu……

One day Nderitu was watching over her mums business at Dohnholm stage, her mother had gone to get more supply from the famous Open Air Market in Nairobi Gikomba, having done business of selling fruits at the roadside was an easy and a normal thing for a then 15year old boy and his mother until the abnormal happened.

On this fateful day, a middlle aged woman driving a very classy mercedes benz, she slowed the vehichle and signalled the poor boy to bring her over some bananas,He innocently rushed with his bananas to the woman, she opened the door and whisked the poor boy inside the vehichle in the pretence of removing some moneey in the wallet,bt she accelerated the car and sped off.

To cut the story,Nderitu was found after two hours unconcious, having been sodomized and left for the dogs.Having been brought up with a single mother and two sisters,Nderitu completly refused to go back home because she developed a negative attitude towards the female species and could no longer share a roof with the mother and the sisters, and He opted to become a Chokora( a steetboy) whose base of operation was in Umoja Estate.
