Imagine the scene: Sophia, energized by her own experience with World Pulse, stands before a group of local women in their community. The air crackles with a mix of curiosity, hope, and perhaps a touch of apprehension. When more than 50 women gathered on the evening of 11th July 2024 in Kangaye B Street, to discuss digital opportunities in bringing gender equality. Sophia is determined to ignite a spark for change.

Breaking Down Barriers:

Understanding Needs: I started the meeting by listening to the women, gauging their current understanding of technology and their biggest concerns or hesitations. I was so eager to capture their perceptions through this discussion. Mama Ashura said, “My phone is only used to make and receive calls, even though it is a smart phone, I want to know more on how I can use it  more profitably”. On the other hand, Bi. Hidaya did not stay behind, she said; I heard that I can sell products online, now how can I do it when I don't have a smartphone? With a lot been shared, it's an undeniable fact that there is still a long way to go in accessing digital opportunities for rural women. Although many women own a phone, a very small number have smartphones. Nevertheless, this  small group still lacks the knowledge of proper use and how they can benefit from a digital platform like World Pulse.

Sharing Success Stories: I then shared my own journey, highlighting how digital skills empowered me. I shared how I was able to take advantage of the opportunities offered by Wp by sharing my initiatives and encouraging other women through comments where a few months ago I was given visibility and featured on World Pulse platforms as Featured Change Maker Award winner alongside other 3 women from different countries. I also explained to them how I was able to connect with other women around the world where through their stories I learn and build courage in what I do. Moreover, II showcased examples of other women in the World Pulse community or beyond who have thrived through digital training.

Addressing Concerns: I anticipated potential worries, like lack of access to technology or time constraints. I suggested creative solutions, like outlines the training options available, whether it's free online courses especially those offered by World pulse. I encouraged not only a peer-to-peer learning initiative within the community but also the women to support each other throughout the learning process. Perhaps they can create a study group and schedule to meet once per month where they can, where they can access wp websites together, help each other open accounts, read and comment stories of other women.

Next Steps: I clearly outline the next steps, whether it's registering for a course, attending an information session, or simply discussing the options further. The goal was to leave the women feeling empowered and ready to embark on their digital journeys.

Sophia's meeting is not just about imparting knowledge; it's about igniting a movement for change. By empowering women with digital skills, she is paving the way for a more equitable and prosperous future for her community.
