Dear African Fathers,

To those who have left their children in the care of their mothers, believing that one day your children will search for you, let this serve as a wake-up call.

When you walked away, you left a void. But life doesn’t wait for anyone. Many of these children find love, support, and guidance from stepfathers who willingly take on the responsibility you chose to abandon. They become the fathers you didn’t want to be.

Now, as you try to return, you may find that your children have built lives where your absence no longer matters. They have chosen to love the man who stood by them when you walked away.

This isn’t their fault—it’s the natural consequence of your choices. A relationship with your child isn’t a right; it’s a privilege earned through consistent love, care, and presence.

If you truly wish to be part of their lives now, it begins with humility. Accept responsibility for your absence, respect the bond they have with their stepfather, and work patiently to rebuild trust. But understand this: their forgiveness is theirs to give, not yours to demand.

To all fathers reading this, remember—your children deserve your presence, not just your regret. Step up before it’s too late.

Sincerely,

A Voice for Accountability and Healing
