MISPLACED OF PRIORITY

Misplaced of priorityis a trend that I have been noticing in my community but I have never known it could be this bad until Women Inspiration Development Center involvement in accelerator fundraising of Global Giving. Invitation was sent to my 380 local friends to support our plan toempower 250 girls through taking them out of the streethelp them to enter university or learn a trade. Out of these 380 friends, only one responded to these call to give, one also contacted me that she would give before the end of the program. There was no response whatsoever from the remaining378.

Why did I say misplaced of priority? This is community that if I declare today that I want to celebrate my birthday instead of this call to empower and I told my friends that I want all of them to buy a uniform to celebrate my birthday that will cost them $50 each. Out of the 380, at least 300 would buy that uniform and they will also bring at least a gift worth $5 each along for me.

My people will celebrate birthdays, Funeral ofsomebody that has died and would never return again and they will be spending thousands of dollars. It is time to raise our voices among ourselves especially womenin Africa to get our priority right.

Our girls continue to be victims of sexual and domestic violence because they are not empowered. They are victims of ritual killings in the hands of sugar daddies (old men money bags) and yahoo boys (boys that do rituals to make money or do scam online) because they are not empowered and they needed to feed themselves. Yet our priority is to use our money to celebrate funerals of somebody that have died and you will never see again and then the living ones will be left in the cold.

I am sure that these my friends didn't know that I don't want birthday gifts but I want is to see smiles in the faces of girls as they enter universities when they have lost hope of furthering their education as a result of fund. I want to see a girl proudly showing off her business when she has lost hope of making it in life.

These are what I want, this is my passion, what gives my joy, happiness and what makes me feel fulfilled. I don't ever want any girl to pass through the hardship I went through when I was growing up if I can help it.A situation wherethere was nobody to help me and my other sisters and brothersand we wanted to be educated by all means. A hopeless situation and a state of despair. I don't ever want any girl to go though it as long as I live.

It is time for women to rise up for women. The more women and girls are not empowered the more violence against women in our world. Help a girl you are helping a nation, build a girl, you are building a nation. it is time to be our sister's keeper and men that loves their mothers, wives and daughters, it is time to join your hands together with the women to empower women and girls so that we can achieve a world that is safe for women and justice is given
