\"HOPE
HOPE OF A NATION

The National population commission of Nigeria estimated the population of Nigeria to be 121 millionin the year 2001. Out of this population, women constitute 50 percent. Inspire of this massive size, the Annual Abstract of Statistics reveals that 9.6 million female pupils were registered for theprimary school as against 11.9 million male pupils in the year 2004.

In 2005 there were 9.9million female as against 12.1 million males. At the post primary school level, there were 2. 7 millionfemale as against 3.4 million male students in the year 2005.

The impact of this discrepancy has leftwomen especially in northern parts of Nigeria, vulnerable to poverty, low-self-esteem, early marriageand other social problems. It was based on these problems that I propose to embark on aresearch to develop a draft education policy for Nigerian based on the policy pronouncements of thegovernment and best practices from around the world.

It is hoped that the policy will examine thosefactors militating against women education in Nigeria and suggest solution on how to solvethem.
