My Propeller

I joined World Pulse in 2008, at first , I was just navigating the site , reading stories but never commenting and of course I wasn’t writing much partly because I did not have the confidence and also kept asking myself , if I write , who is going to read?. I started writing more when an article I wrote for Pambazuka News , got reposted in Black Agenda Report[1]- a leftist US online  magazine and at the same time another article I had written on Climate Change and the relevance of international solidarity also got reposted on a Third World Network[2] African Agenda magazine.

It was a very exciting moment for me .It was my Aha Moment!. The realisation that yes, I can write and yes people not only in my motherland  read what I write but I have audience across continents .That was the fuel that made me start taking article writing seriously. I told myself , I can share with the world the stories of what I see every day when I engage communities , the struggles and the triumphs when communities succeed in what they want .Armed with a pen and paper , I started laying out stories. I had bundles of foolscaps to write rough drafts before doing the typing. Sometimes the stories would flow , other times , I would have to start all over again. My greatest supply of stories were the everyday interactions I had and continue to have with community members .Writing has made me to be keener on what people say , what their perspectives are and why they behave the way they do.

Publishing on World Pulse is often a humbling moment , through this I have gotten to interact with sisters from different continents .Through World Pulse connections , I successfully organised a zoom dialogue to discuss Movement Building[3],  with Tamarack Verrall a World Pulse member from Canada and continue to learn new things daily as well as connect .Through World Pulse I get an opportunity to raise my voice on issues happening in my country and in the African continent. I also give fellow sisters an opportunity to get to understand Africa and issues  as they unravel. I get a lot of encouragement from World Pulse sisters’ comments on the articles I write , this gives me more energy to write more stories.

World Pulse has increasingly put me on the world map, I have been featured on World Pulse page talking about Navigating the Digital Divide , an article I wrote and posted on Widows  and Landlessness  has been featured on Women’s UN Report Network[4] (WURN) thanks to World Pulse, additionally an article I wrote on Menstruation  will be featured on a report to be shared with the UN thanks to Mohinder  from Action on Child , Early and Forced Marriage. The article on menstruation challenges had a lot of comments, this enhanced visibility for what I do in Kenya. .Through World Pulse , I have earned the title of  Vocal contributor and Encourager. It feels great reading and commenting on fellow sister’s articles, it gives them the assurance that they are on the right path and they are in the right place. Being part of world Pulse is the best decision I ever made.

Long Live World Pulse! Long Live Sisterhood! Globalise the Struggle! Globalise Hope
