Navigating Dreams and Challenges: My Journey as a First-Generation College Student

My biggest support, I am sharing this story because I want to share with everyone my challenge and what I wanna change

Life is a journey marked by personal experiences, challenges, and aspirations. My name is Natalia Pixcar Set, and I am at the beginning of an exciting chapter as a freshman in college.

Majoring in Biology with a minor in Finance, I am not just pursuing a degree; I am chasing a dream- the dream to become a doctor. This journey to contribute to the welfare of others make a meaningful impact in the world of practical ideas, and the importance of recognizing financial literacy and application in my long-term goals. This journey is not only a personal endeavor but a beacon of hope for my family, making me the first in our lineage to step into the realm of higher education.

I hail from a family that radiates happiness and togetherness. With four siblings, our home is a place of many shared dreams and unwavering support. My parents, the pillars of our family, work tirelessly to provide for us. My father's dedication extends to two jobs, while my mother takes on the role of housekeeper. Their sacrifice is the ability to pursue my college education. I carry the responsibility of not only fulfilling my dreams but also uplifting my family and my future generations.

The decision to embark on this academic journey is not without its challenges. I am currently aware of the financial strain my education imposes on my parents. Every day, they strive to put food on the table, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to our well-being. In response, I am determined to take responsibility for my college education and ease their burden.

I am now trying to find a way to pay for my studies. I have applied for financial aid and student loans which they cannot give me because I am not a U.S. citizen. My decision to pursue higher education is not simply a personal ambition; it is a deliberate choice to alter the source of my family's story. By seeking knowledge and embracing the challenges of college life, I am creating a ripple effect that extends beyond my ambitions. My story encompasses the transformative power of education and demonstrates how it can act as a catalyst for change, breaking the cycle of disenfranchisement and opening doors to a better future.

My faith in God serves as an anchor during these turbulent times. Believing in His guidance and trusting in His plan, I find solace in the knowledge that He is the orchestrator of my dreams, WIth God at the helm, I am convinced that miracles can happen, and obstacles can be overcome. This conviction is not just a personal belief; it is an achievement of my resilience and unwavering commitment goals.

Every day I am reminded that my parents are doing everything they can to support my aspirations. However, the financial landscape of college education remains daunting. The rising tuition fees threaten to derail my dreams, but I won't let it. My resolve is a solid one, I will finish college and make my parents proud by doing so.

Putting God first in adversity opens doors and paves the way for victory. I not only want to fulfill my dreams but also inspire others facing similar challenges. I want to share my story of perseverance, faith, and the transformative power of education. My journey is one of faith and it can become a reality.

As I navigate the challenges of being a first-generation college student, I am driven by a desire to change not only my destiny but the course of the entire generation. The road ahead may be difficult, however, I am determined to make my dreams come true. I embody the spirit of change and inspire those around me to reach for their goals and rewrite their destinies.
