New angle possibly

In my research I came across a thing that so fascinates me that I want to make it my feature!

The Last of our Kind

I am not sure of the exact timelines yet but sometime in the 1800's a group of Aleuts from Attu Island were relocated to a previously uninhabited island in Russia to fish and whale. From what I heard so far that they believed for a very long time that they were the last of their kind alive. I believe there were 2 islands close to each other like this. Again, I am not sure of when the reuniting of the cultures happened but think it was relatively recently...

It just boggles my mind what that must have felt like! To be the last of your kind, to be responsible for keeping all of your customs and traditions alive while adapting to your new lifestyle. Wow, it just makes me wish I could go back in time and interview them personally! From what I learned so far they met the Aleutian Aleuts and I want to write about this, if I can get enough material to write up a feature!

I contacted the group I was pointed to just today so hopefully I can gather enough material and meet any if there are in town or maybe email back and forth so I can write it up.

But wow, it just fascinates me what that must have felt like. To believe that you were the very last of your kind left in the world! I mean, it is something that anyone can imagine about their own culture and what would you hold and value and try to keep alive?!

It fascinates me since I am on a quest to lean my roots and cultural customs, values and language myself. I try to picture what it felt like to be the last of your tribe and how they managed to keep it alive speaks to me of our strong spirit...

Wish me luck!
