Next week, I'll be with our Rafiki

Dear Rafiki abroad, dear friends and world sisters,

My three university students, my 16-year-old daughter Sofia, and I will depart Monday June 14th for Nairobi to meet our dear Mama Africa Lin Wafula. After a week, we'll travel to Mombasa and to the three communities we’ll be working in, Lungalunga, Godo, and Perani.

This is the website I’ve developed, way too primitive yet, to show you all the plans for the summer and the activities of the “Health by Motorbike” initiative.

I’ll improve the site as the projects progress and as I learn more web skills :)

Although we have secured funding for the summer and for part of the 2010/11 activities, this is only the beginning of an ambitious initiative to bring health literacy and basic health care to these three communities.

Please, support our work by donating to Project Africa (WorldPulse & PulseWire member organization):

http://www.projectforafrica.org/

Your contribution can make an immense difference in the health of our Rafiki. When you donate to Project Africa, specify that your support is for the “Health by Motorbike” Initiative. We need your help especially for malaria treatment and for the purchase of mosquito nets for pregnant Rafiki and their children who are under five years of age.

Your donation of $10 can buy 6 doses of malaria medication or a mosquito net for a child.
Your donation of $20 can buy 12 doses of malaria treatment or a family-size mosquito net.
Your donation of $50 can save a whole family from malaria.

Furthermore, your donation for mosquito nets will be stretched and maximized by purchasing the materials in Nairobi and by asking our Rafiki to produce the nets themselves. That way, your donations will benefit not only the health of our Rafiki's families in Lungalunga, Godo, and Perani but also the economic infrastructure of these communities.

Thank you very very much.
Asante sana

My next communication will be "From the Field"
