Of Hegemony, Exclusivity & the Idea of Saving the World

Barriers:-

I am living in a society that is rooted in and thrives in ancient patriarchal hegemony and structure. Although there has been much effort and many movements to gradually induce the process of change in this societal structure, the little success in change that is visible to the naked eye is, unfortunately, not attributed to women's voices but the compelling need for 'adjustments' in the wake of globalization and economic growth. I could state the 'system' as a major barrier in expediting the change process, however, the old world patriarchy itself is the barrier creating conflict and confusion in people's minds, whether old or young and across all genders.

Challenges:-

There are more than enough outlets, agencies and non profits in this country working towards the overarching and poorly defined goal of women empowerment. Where they are ceaselessly failing is a) in their preachy tonality and attitude, b) their personal politics and the lack of open identification if not admittance and c) the lack of inclusiveness in their approach to \"save the world\" i.e. by not accounting the voice of those they wish to \"save\", others in the business of \"saving\" and including the greater masses in the process of \"saving\" beyond the emotional blackmail of donation. The challenge, quite simply put, is in engaging the highest stakeholder to the lowest beneficiary in the process of change along with partnering with as many to infect this change across communities and finding innovative ways to engage every second person to contribute in a way that suits his/her aspirations and convenience.

How Pulse Wire can overcome these challenges & barriers?

Pulse Wire is already doing a lot of it especially point 'c' where its bringing together the voices of so many individuals from various backgrounds like media, non profits, students, academicians etc. It is great to see the encouragement and constructive feedback from all members and I'd like to see some of this discussion being replicated in the social networking spaces. I am cross posting World Pulse content in my social networking spaces as well as in exclusive online journalism communities. With the greater permit of time in my schedule, I hope to become a more pro-active reader on World Pulse and cross post it on my blog and important sites that I will be working on. I would also suggest that World Pulse invites members and contributions in regional languages and dialects (with a translate button) as English is not an expressive medium for everyone. Moreover, a lot of hegemony is attached to the politics of this language (read: exclusivity). As they say, charity must begin from home :)
