Our Destiny

You and I are imagining a new reality for women so that it becomes our destiny. We are creating this new narrative together. It is already happening. It is that all living beings live with dignity, respect and freedom.

I will use World Pulse as a conduit to this reality – to illuminate, illustrate, instigate, agitate, elaborate and collaborate to share stories, bear witness, cry in shame, move beyond blame and move forward. I will add ingredients of social change and stir the pot. I will use my elders voice to join conversations and correspond with younger women (a blog or a column) about what we are learning and creating together. I will stir and awaken Western women to warm the numbness and complicity we share in our own reality of oppression. And I will celebrate the stories of triumph and possibility that sow the seeds of hope. I will create simple conversations – women’s circles – with friends and strangers to explore questions that matter. What are we noticing? Why does it matter? What is the dream we hold in our hearts that needs to be shared? What do our daughters and granddaughters need us to become at this time in the world? What is possible now that was not possible before? What is your story? What do we need to give up in order to move forward? (PeerSpirit and Berkana’s Women’s Leadership Circle Kit) World Pulse will be the place to deposit our curiosity and our wisdom.

In the upcoming months I will co-host a learning journey of women at the UN Conference on the Status of Women whose 2011 theme is “the access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work.” It will also evaluate progress toward “the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl child.” Women travel from all over the world to be with each other, to tell their stories and to imagine together. We will host conversations of reflection and sense what we might do next. We will share these harvests with World Pulse and other voice pieces for women. We will collaborate with other girl and women’s organizations to host a large-scale world café on February 26, 2011 to create an action strategy to support the girl child in our local and global communities. We will find each other and move forward together. (Margaret Wheatley)

I am realizing that my freedom to take leadership and use my voice has been travelling with me throughout my life and I didn’t always see it. I am just noticing my freedom again and working with it as a friend. I am free to make the invisible visible. I am free to offer forgiveness and compassion as gifts. I am free to take a stand on what is unbearable. I am free to begin conversations with younger women, my own neighbors and women around the world to explore how we can become collaborators and learners in this journey together. We need each other. We will go as far as we can.

We will build the new narrative – joining with the stories of all the women who are here and those who have come before us. We will transcend the delicate areas of religion, culture and tradition. We will use our rituals to honor each person’s sacredness. We will patch together our stories to create a World Pulse quilt that we pass on to our daughters and granddaughters. Strong relationships and communities will evolve and specific projects will emerge. We will experience setbacks and successes. We will Pray the Devil Back to Hell and Walk to Beautiful. We will stand together around what we want for our communities and families to thrive and we will embrace diversity and dissent. It is already happening. Our World Pulse drumbeat comes from our hearts.
