political parties are kind of dumb

An interesting topic came up the other night, political parties, and more so people's undying loyalty to them. Now in the interest of full disclosure, I was a registered Republican and now I am a registered Democrat. So I have sat on both sides of the fence. To be clear, I do not think that all Republicans are bad people, and I do not think that all Democrats are good people. I think the majority of people tend to lean liberal or conservative, but for the most part they are not extreme in their views. It goes without saying you have extreme right wing conservatives and extreme left wing liberals. I do not think they are in the majority in numbers, but they are in the majority of power. I have come to realise however, that political parties are kind of stupid in nature. In the words of a paraphrased Chris Rock, "Anyone who decided how they are going to decide before they even hear the problem is an idiot". In other words, people should be open to dealing with the issue just by the issue. So one problem might be better solved liberally while another one might be better off being solved conservatively. But there are so many die hard members of the respective parties that they would rather bite off their own foot than to give a "victory' to the opposite party. That is just plain stupid and honestly, part of the problem of why nothing ever gets done in this country. Nobody is willing to compromise and work together. The two parties are at war with each other. I think this has been more evident now that the economy is in a recession than ever. Instead of getting into a lengthy post about how the two parties have spited each other, let me get to my point. If the whole village is bickering, the bridge never gets built.
