Power of Connection

Sometimes in life we face critical situation that makes us feel so depressed and unmotivated that we forget about our true potential. In the moment we ask ourselves, why me? Why me going through all the struggles? And we don’t realize that it is not only me or us. There are thousands of women like you out there who are feeling the same or going through the same situation. When these women connect to each other they feel a sense of connection. A beautiful sense of connection to each other’s emotions and feelings. Such connection is what actually we call sisterhood or empowerment. Suddenly, we realize that we are not the only one suffering in this world. There are many like us in different parts of the world and we can actually help each other to grow and fight against all the odds. We just need to connect and feel the power of togetherness in our lives.

When I first talked with my Mentor, Anum Shakeel, I felt this connection. My mentor is an incredible woman with significant achievements in her life. She is also very passionate about Women Empowerment, and that is why she joined as a Mentor at Wedu so that she can inspire and motivate females from around the world. When I first got an email saying that I have been matched with a mentor, named Anum Shakeel from Pakistan. At first I was kind of hesitant because I’m from Bangladesh and she is from Pakistan, and our countries share an unfortunate history of war. Being curious to know about her I googled her name and after knowing her success stories I was thrilled and feeling honored that I got the opportunity to connect with such an inspiring lady. I became excited to talk with her and know all about her journey and get inspired.

She shared her struggle story with me and made me realize that life is all about positive attitude and consistent hard work. I was motivated all of sudden and felt the positive energy in my bones. It’s amazing how just a voice of someone on the other side of the phone can give you so much inspiration. Not a face to face conversation but a powerful and confident voice, and it not just any voice but the voice of a woman to another amateur woman who is struggling to believe in herself. Her voice simply empowered me. Because such empowering voice is not common in the society I grew up. Since childhood I heard one thing repeatedly that is, “ a girl should always lower her voice or should not talk too much”. This kind of mindset always pulls a woman back from realizing her self-worth and reaching to her true potential.

She taught me that my voice has worth and it deserves to be heard. So that many more girls can become Anum Shakeel and inspire thousands more girls like Suchitra Acharjee. That is the power of connection beyond boundaries. Such connection is necessary to help women suffering and struggling in different parts of the world. Sooner or later we will reach a point where this connection make women believe in sisterhood. A woman supporting another woman will not be rare scene but a common attitude.
