REACHING OUT - 2010 VOF WEEK THREE ASSIGNMENT

REACHING OUT

I have reached out to lots of women by interacting with them on Worldpulse, through the internet.
Internet is for global elites who have access to the computer and are educated. Though, I am not a member of the elites, I am just a fortunate woman, who has endured through hardship, and has discovered an ability to inspire others. I am privileged to have an education and access to computer and internet. This will only help me to further communicate effectively with the outside world rather than the people from my immediate environment and community, who I would very much like to inspire also.

CHALLENGES:

The inability of bringing people to me when I cannot get to them is a great challenge, especially in a place like Lagos where transportation can become expensive.

The means through which I would like to interact with them is not available to them, in that most of them do not have access to computer or have internet knowledge or accessibility.

The lack of electric power to charge a phone with which to maintain contact with my people is another frustration. The unreliability of means of communication, like a charged laptop, or irregular power interruptions at the Internet café, when electricity fails is a challenge.
Not too many opportunities to reach out to those who need help, especially in the villages.

SOLUTIONS:

  1. Inspire one person at a time.

  2. Meet potential audience at my place of worship.

  3. Create simple literatures to distribute to my audience.

  4. Use social gathering opportunities to create a platform for interacting with other women.

  5. Seek basic educational opportunities like training, in simple reading and writing to empower women to pursue informal education.

  6. Establish adult literacy centre that is affordable, with emphasis on women.

An educated mother will raise educated children, and the influence of the mother transcends to the children. Women should be empowered with education and knowledge.

I believe there are some good people out there who share the same views as I do and can afford to be a part it. I do have the zeal, time and the interest. I need to create more awareness, and impact.
In order to penetrate their interest, some positive actions have to be taken.

PULSEWIRE AND THE INTERNET:

Pulsewire provides an opportunity for me to meet my peers – other women of similar background seeking empowerment to enable the less privileged in our various communities.
It allows me to share my experience with others, who can share it with others. I, also through this platform learn from others experiences.
While the internet is not available to a majority of my target audience, it creates a platform for me to tap into online resources that provide me knowledge, and global know how, while at the same time providing a platform in which to communicate with others seeking similar solutions to similar challenges.
