I have been to two rehabs in my life, when I was living a life of lies and sadness. There is one thing that has and always will stick with me, and that is the Serenity Prayer. I think it applies to everyone, not just addicts. The prayer is as follows :
God, grant me the Serenity to accept the things i cannot change, the courage to change the things i can and the wisdom to know the difference.
