Community-led Participation

#ShiftThePower is a call to action, recognizing that the traditional top-down approach to development has failed to address the root causes of inequality and injustice. It's a recognition that power needs to be decentralized, and resources need to be placed in the hands of communities, particularly women, who are the drivers of change.

At UF4D, we've seen the impact of community-led initiatives, where resources are placed directly in the hands of local leaders, bypassing intermediaries. This approach has led to more effective, sustainable, and inclusive development outcomes. However, accessing funding for community-based work remains a significant challenge. We've faced obstacles such as:

- Lack of access to decision-making tables

- Limited funding opportunities for community-led initiatives

- Inflexible funding structures

- Overemphasis on scalability over community-led solutions

To navigate these challenges, we recommend:

- Building relationships with funders who share our values

- Creating collaborative funding models

- Amplifying community voices

- Advocating for flexible funding structures

To #ShiftThePower, we need to:

- Redistribute resources to community-led initiatives

- Decentralize decision-making

- Prioritize local knowledge and solutions

- Foster equitable partnerships

In our context, this means:

- Supporting women-led initiatives

- Amplifying marginalized voices

- Creating inclusive funding models

Collective action is crucial. We must:

- Build a coalition of like-minded organizations

- Advocate for policy changes

- Share knowledge and resources

- Support community-led initiatives

Together, we can #ShiftThePower and create a more just and equitable development sector.
