Side Mirror of the Presidential race -- Uganda

One thing I like of the current president of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Museveni who has ruled Uganda from 1986 to-date and racing for his forth term as the President of Uganda is that women have a voice. Women can fight for their rights unlike the past regimes where women were house wives, no voice beyond their hearts, even the men they had would not entertain their complains, in addition they would expect any form of domestic violence any time. A real man's wife was one whose mouth was zipped.

I grew up seeing many things change, good and bad, my mother like any other village woman plus the men do not permit any debate about the president. “He brought peace, we used to sleep and hide in the bush because of wars, theft and robbery. Museveni has changed this country for good, I do not want any other president other than Museveni” she emphasizes always.

Uganda Electricity Board is privatized, a small Uganda owning a LARGE lake and the source of River Nile has very expensive electricity rates filled with load shading worse based in urban areas, local communities are using kerosene and small lamps called Tadobas made by the local smith-men , also Ugandan owned entities (public assets) are sold off, the roads are nothing but potholes, I mean the city roads, when it rains small and large lakes are created in the city, houses are swallowed-up. Talk of Unemployment, millions of graduates are un employed, I want you to examine all the BIG and MEDIUM posts in Uganda, be it government or private, you will realize that Westerners are taking 98% of these jobs. Corruption is flowing in the blood streams of policy makers, top government officials, NGO heads, what will you expect of a lay man? When it comes to accountability for the billions on monies being spent you will get ashamed of this country, I like the Public Accounts Committee here, they expose the so called smart leaders. Soon you will hear they are no more because of fear of their lives, someone will scratch your back if you try to expose their dirty linens.

This was my thought, if president Museveni had given up the presidency for someone else (change), he would be honored for his achievements, what I see is that the more he rules, the more the top officials will misuse funds, the more people will suffer and the more resentment.

Presidential campaigns are on until February 16 and voting in February 18 2010, 8 candidates, and one being a woman. It is no doubts that the incumbent is widely advertised in posters allover the city.
I get something out of the campaigns, while the seven candidates promise air to the communities H.E’s put his words in action. Yesterday in his campaign in Northern Uganda he installed electricity in one of the remote areas, by the time he gave his speech, electricity was in place. Tell me if such a community can give their votes to those with empty promises.
Some candidates address children ages one to 18 plus a few youth, why? People want the BIG fish! BIG fish is a term by H.E to mean someone influential, he referred the ancestors of UPC (Uganda People’s Congress) who abandoned their party for NRM (National Resistance Movement) as the BIG Fish . Even if the other candidates have sense and give the best of their speech, the local communities crave for President Museveni, the BIG fish.
President Museveni knows how to catch the attention of the excited Ugandans and mainly the youths, he composed a song he says“You want another rap?” and the audience reply “yes sevo” . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BjOHc_R0PA The young and old dance to this tune in support of the President.
NOTHING can be done to stop H.E from winning the forth coming elections. My humble request to the president is that he should consider this forth term as his last term. Change is necessary in all aspect of life, every strategy is geared towards change, let him change his mind for change.
