Surviving FGM

My name is Evangeline Mukami from Nairobi in Kenya. At the age of 11 years old, I was forced to go through FGM - Female Genital Mutilation. This unfortunately changed my life for good. I got an infection that developed into a cyst. I did not have anywhere to turn to. I suffered all my life, I have gone through numerous operations until in 2020 when I got a doctor who helped me get proper reconstructive surgery. I got also counselling that helped me to deal with thr trauma.

FGM is the worst form of GBV and its unfortunate many communities in the World are still practising FGM

I use my experience to support other survivors of FGM and also to warn communities to stop this harmful practise. The scars live on but I am not my pain.
