In Southwest Nigeria, there are numerous wise sayings that highlight the extraordinary abilities of women, even those with mental challenges, to care for their children. A mentally challenged woman may neglect her own needs, but she will instinctively prioritize her child's well-being. This phenomenon is a testament to the power of intuition.

I recall a remarkable story of a mentally challenged woman who gave birth with the help of her community. Despite her challenges, she demonstrated remarkable maternal instincts, fondling and singing to her baby, and even recognizing the importance of breastfeeding. When her child finally slept, she asked a caregiver to take the baby, stating that she needed rest and would care for her child when she was older. This woman's intuition guided her to make decisions that ensured her child's safety and well-being.

Similarly, many women possess this innate ability to nurture and protect their families. They are the backbone of their communities, providing emotional support, care, and guidance to their loved ones. However, societal institutions often overlook their contributions and exclude them from decision-making processes. This exclusion is a significant reason why many solutions fail. Involving women as stakeholders, rather than just staff, is crucial for successful family-based interventions.

To build a more equitable society, we must recognize the value of women's intuition and involve them in shaping our future workforce, leaders, and communities.
