Motherhood, a journey of love, sacrifice, and unspoken strength. Mothers across the world are burdened with the weight of their families while navigating personal struggles, societal expectations, and their own dreams. Yet, their resilience often goes unnoticed.

A woman carries a new life inside of her for nine months, her body experiences a myriad of changes which she might never be able to recover from. From the moment a child is born, a mother’s life is forever changed. Her time, energy, her body and emotions are no longer hers. Many mothers give up careers, ambitions, and even their well-being to ensure their children have the best opportunities in life.

For some, this sacrifice is financial—working multiple jobs to support their spouses put food on the table. For others, it is emotional—choosing to stay in difficult situations for the sake of their children. And then there are the silent struggles, like postpartum depression, which many mothers endure in isolation, feeling so ashamed to talk about it.

As a mother who has walked the path of postpartum depression, I understand the silent cries that many women hold within. That overwhelming exhaustion, the feeling of inadequacy, and the fear of being judged make it even more difficult to speak up and seek help. Still, in the midst of the darkness, there is light. The love of a child, the support of a friend, or even a simple moment of self-care can remind a mother that she is not alone.

Regardless of these struggles, mothers continue to rise. They build amazing homes, raise future leaders, and instill values of kindness, strength, and resilience in their children. Whether it's the single mother who works tirelessly to provide, the stay-at-home mom trying so hard to balance household responsibilities, or the career woman managing work and the family front, every mother is a warrior in her own right.

Today being Mothering Sunday in Nigeria, I want to also all mothers in the world, let’s not just offer flowers and gifts but also acknowledge the silent battles mothers face. Let’s support mental health awareness, encourage policies that protect working mothers, and create spaces where mothers feel heard, valued, and supported.

To every mother reading this—you are seen, you are appreciated, and you are enough; you are worthy, you are complete and you're valuable.

Happy Mothering Sunday to all the amazing mothers in World Pulse.
