Tools Down by health workers

It is now two weeks since the health workers have been on strike in most parts of the country. Most of the local clinics have less than five senior workers working well the other clinics have been closed. This is in a situation where health workers are demanding for K1.5 million salary increments. The management and government have not yet commented on the matter. The university teaching hospital which is the largest hospital in the country is only attending to chronically ill patients, and some selective patients. There is only one mortuary attendant operating, and most of the brought in dead bodies have to wait for hours in order for a doctor to sign.
The decision by Health workers to put their tools down is affecting the masses in the nation. Being a developing country, few people can afford to pay for private services. This matter has put women in a difficult position as they have now taken up the role of nurses to treat and look after the sick at home. Although the union and the management together with the ministry of health have tried to have negotiation meeting, management and the ministry of health seemed not concerned and nothing is working.
