unpaid ! The Painful Sacrifices That Makes The World a Better Place

Isalute Stayed home moms, House wives and Women doing home and office jobin my country, Sierra Leone. Because it is really tough to be in one of these categories.

Stayed home moms wake up 5:00am and go to sleep 12:00am because they wake up to make breakfast, prepare the kids to go to school and make sure hot water is available for their husbands, while they are sleeping.

And after 8am when their husbands have gone to work they do Cleaning, washing, cooking, taking care ofchildren after schooland doing other house chores. And if you miss anyone of these chores your husband will see it as laziness, because they consider house chores to be nothing compared to going to work.

They will tell their friends "my wife is not doing anything for the rest of the day andshe couldn't launder my shirt, but I don't blame her, it because am putting food on the table and taking care of the home financially" but if there is a scale to measure the type of work women and men do, am pretty sure women’s scale will over power the men.

On job interview the employers always prioritize people who can multitask and work under pressure. Who can do it better a woman? The best men who multitasked well surely emulate that from their mom’s ,grandmothers and other female relatives .So Ithink women should be highly paid and respected in the world, because multitasking is a woman’s specialty

For me I do two jobs, office and house work. After leaving the office I go to the market buy food stuff and go home to cook for my family after thatI help my son to do his homework. This kind of chores leaves me no room for personal time.

But in order to be a good wife I need to do all of these jobs to make my family happy. But who makes me happy in return? That’s the question I asked older women who will proudly say to me, you should be proud to work like a slave for husband and family because it only by doing that you will please him and God in return.

The society think that men are doing women favor by marrying them which means women are indebted to serve men for the rest of her life and they should work harder than the men to keep their marriages.

Some tribes my country think that it is a taboo for a man to enter the kitchen or let alone serve himself and these are the tribes that marry so many wives to work for them in their farm plantation and nurse lots of babies, so a woman coming from such communities will have no future dreams and aspirations.

And it is because of all these reasons women see it as a disadvantage to be woman. The restriction, marginalization and deprivation we face render us powerless to the point that some women see themselves amounting to nothing in the society. But how can we change this when we are poor are powerless? Is the question every woman asked in my country.

My answer is, even when we have partially succeeded impacting positive value in this present generation of men we can still make huge impact in the next. As care givers to the younger generation we should be oblige to teach our boys how to value, recognized and appreciate women’s effort.

And finally the few good men should be influencers in the society and mentor younger men because change only happen when ordinary people are involved.
